Welcome to La Paz, Bolivia

This was our team's second trip to Bolivia in the last year and thus far smooth travels and great weather combined with our deluxe accommodations in La Paz have made for an easy transition to living above 11,000' in the heart of the central Andes in this diverse South American country.

Enjoy the photos and know that we are supported by our team in Colorado as well as a great support team in La Paz that will travel with us to the peaks for the upcoming week of alpine climbing.

Near our hotel in Calacoto, a southern suburb of La Paz is a maintained path system that takes one to the nearby cliffs of Aranhuez and we spent a few days acclimatizing at 11k while clipping bolts on these steep conglomerate fins.

Multi-pitch slab climbing at Aranhuez.

Our hotel is nearby a neighborhood with many embassies and so we stopped by a few for tea and crumpets and caught sight of a few Aymara women selling wares on the streets.

Casa Grande Hotel is one of the newest in the city and if you are a fan of modern architecture, this is the place to stay in the heart of the Calacoto district of La Paz.

Alejo enjoying some alligator roll and the mini-fridge goodies.
A visit to the Palca Canyon about 20 miles south of La Paz was our introduction to the unique sandstone spires that cover much of the landscape on this side of the capital city.

Mudstone aficionados, there is great adventure to be had in these canyons if you are slightly insane.

Clipping bolts on the north face of the Galleta (cookie).  Route topo's can be found on this Bolivian Blog.

Post-climb refreshments.

Well decorated taxi and the super approach vehicle at the base of the Galleta.

East face of the Galleta.  We spent a few days climbing on the north face (left side) where afternoon shady conditions were most ideal for sending.
